As the much anticipated Martyrs day (3rd June) is drawing closer , more pilgrims have been spotted flooding Kampala on foot as all roads lead the Namugongo martyrs shrine where 45 Buganda martyrs were killed and some burnt alive under the orders of the harsh Kabaka Mwanga who was against the increasing conversion of his subjects into Christians , a plot he feared would lead his over throw.
The Walk of faith involves trekking from whichever destination to Namugongo on foot as a symbol of following in the foot steps of the young martyrs who walked long distance under torture by palace guards until they reached Namugongo where they were be killed. Each year, thousands of pilgrims embark on long jouneys from their homes walking all the way to the shrine to celebrate the faith these young martyrs had in God.
