The outbreak of Covid-19 affected several sectors worldwide. Several countries including Uganda lost billions of money. Lockdowns and destination travel restrictions were a major blow to industries like tourism, aviation, hospitality and more.
Everyone was scared due to several covid-19 deaths recorded around the world. There was financial instabilities and most people lost hope for life. Therefore it is not surprising that the number of tourists visiting different countries reduced.
Different countries are trying hard to revamp the tourism industry since it is a major contributor of revenue. A step is moved by introducing guidelines below. These can help the sector to be active in presence of the dangerous covid-19 virus. This is meant to avoid the further spread of this virus around the country.
Online Visa Application
Right now all visitors to Uganda are advised to apply for the Visa online. There is no issuance of the Visa on arrival as it was before Covid-19. The major reason for this is to avoid congestion at the Entebbe airport’s immigration desk.
Visit the online platform for Uganda’s immigration (immigration.go.ug). Under services, select and click the Visa page. Fill in all the required details and submit your request.
Arrival and Departure Covid-19 tests
On arrival, travelers from various countries to Uganda are required to come with a negative PCR test done within 72 hours. When you reach at the airport, you take another PCR test at a cost of 30 USD. After you are let free to continue with the journey to your hotel or residential home. Results are forward to you by email or text message.
For departure, you have to do another PCR test before your return flight. The nature of the test depends on the requirements for your next travel destination.
Car seating capacity
Tourist vehicles and other cars carry half of the seating. This is meant to ensure social distance between the passengers. If a Car has three seats in a row, the middle seat has to be free from occupation.
Screening at the park entrance
Screening and hand sanitizing of all arriving visitors is mandatory at all entrances for National parks and other protected area. There is an official with temperature gun to check your current temperature and advise you to do the hand sanitizing. Don’t forget the facemask.
Electronic payments
This is the new trend. All visitors to various tourism sites are advised to pay the entry fees at the offices of the Uganda Wildlife authority. If not that, you can make electronic payment at the gates using Visa, Master cards, Airtel or mobile money.
Wearing a face mask
Wearing a face mask is a daily meal for everyone. No one is allowed in public places like airports, restaurants, banks, planes, and tourist sites without face mask. When you are packing for your Safari holiday in Uganda make sure to come with enough face masks.
