Kampala is capital city of Uganda located in the south central part of the country, close to the shores of lake Victoria. The City is divided into five boroughs that oversea local planning namely; Kampala Central division, Kawempe division, Makindye division,Nakawa division and Lubaga division. The City lies within the great Buganda Kingdom In central Uganda, it bordered by Wakiso district to the south,west and north and Kira municipality to the East. When the British arrived in the area, they named one of the it’s seven hills” The hill of Impala” as was named by Mutesa 1 the king of Buganda and the native interpreted it as ” Akasozi k’empala”( antelopes) and so, K’empala formally became ‘Kampala’. Traditionally, Kampala was a city of seven hills but has come to have a lot more over time.
The temperatures in the capital city are warm throughout the year and so, travel within the town is easy and comfortable in most month because of the presence or absence of the rain.
There are a lot of attractions in the city and these include; The Uganda Museum, Kisubi Tombs where the remains of the kings of Buganda were buried was amajor tourist site but these were extensively damaged, The National theatre, Cathedrals – Rubaga and Namirembe, Gadaffi national mosque at old Kampala, Bahai Temple on top of Kikaya hill, Kabaka’s palace and a lot more.
Transportation within the city is by three major methods of public transport. Namely; Boda-boda ( Motorcycle), matatu( minibuses), and special hire taxis but the fastest and easiest way is the Boda-boda that you can see almost everyone on the streets of the city, you won’t be anywhere long before being approached by a Boda-boda driver and if you are not interested, a simple ‘no’ would get him leave you alone. You can get almost anywhere and at the door step with only SHS. 2000 -3000. Within the capital.
There’s a lot to do while in Kampala as there’s a variety of descent restaurants anywhere you’ll be in the city. Eating out in Kampala ranges from eating in cheap and cheerful” hole – in – the wall” joints to the more expensive and upmarket restaurants with a wide variety of food available through. On the whole, Vegan food is rare to find. There are a lot of night clubs in the city. There’s also a number of cinema’s and Ice skating rinks and many pin bowling centers. The city has 8 casinos and above 15 shopping malls and yet more are being built.
