It is hard to find a list of top activities to do in Uganda without Rhino tracking. This activity invites several tourists to the country every year. It allows you to meet and see the Rhinoceros as they feed and carry out various activities.
It only takes place in Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, the only home for Rhinos in Uganda. This protected area is located in the central region of the country in Nakasongola district. It is along the route to Murchison National Falls Park.
This is the main reason why most trips to Murchison include Rhino tracking in Ziwa. From Kampala, it takes about 2-3 hours to finish this 164km journey by car. Besides Rhinos, Ziwa is a great habitat for other species like birds, reptiles, insects and some wild animals although there are rarely seen.
As usual, the tracking session starts with a short briefing. After you walk in a group with an armed ranger to provide you security. After reaching their exact location you usually see them from a distance.
You are free to take some photos. No one is allowed to get close to these animals. There are very dangerous to human life. The excursion lasts for about 1-2 hours. Aside from tracking the Rhinos, visitors participate in other activities like birding, nature walks, fishing and more.
