Covering a total length of 6,693 km, River Nile is the longest river in Africa. It streams through and along the borders of multiple countries. The list includes Uganda, Egypt, Kenya, Burundi, Tanzania, South Sudan, Rwanda, Ethiopia and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
When you try to ask travelers from Europe and other continents the major reasons for their holiday trips to Africa, River Nile can’t miss amongst the answers.
Some tourists explore it from Egypt and others choose to delve into its amazing charm in Uganda. If Uganda is your best choice, make sure to camp in Jinja, a home to the source of this great natural wonder.
Detailed below are the main activities you shouldn’t miss if you fancy breathtaking moments on the River Nile.
White Water Rafting
This recreational outdoor activity grants adventurers a chance to use an inflatable raft and navigate a river or any other body of water. In Uganda there are other places you can go for this activity, but Jinja is the best for a traveler who seeks something that is extraordinary.
Nothing is more stress relieving than challenging the great rapid flows at Itanda falls. This activity starts in the morning and ends in the afternoon. It is a half day experience.
In the past years, operators were offering both a full day and half day experience. The full day was put off the timetable after construction of the Bujjagali falls.
Tubing the Nile
This is another prominent deal for travelers who need to relax on the waters while taking in spectacular views of the surrounding scenery. With this activity you sit on air filled pressure tube as it floats on the waters of River Nile. It is offered in stages including flat water tubing, white water and extreme tubing.
Flat water is for those who are after relaxing on the waters as they sun bathe and sip some bottles of beers. Then white water and extreme tubing is for an adventurer who desires to challenge the rapid water flows on a tube.
Kayaking
Other than white water rafting and tubing, you can use a kayak to move over the waters of the Nile. This is what you can call kayaking the Nile. It differs itself from canoeing by the sitting position of the paddler and number of blades on the paddle.
You can choose to do the grade 5 tandem kayaking or full day white water kayaking. The activity is amazing and spoils you with unending breathtaking views of surrounding scenery.
Boat cruise
If you don’t want to wet your clothes, a boat cruise is for you. A holiday trip to Jinja isn’t complete without this activity. It lasts for about 2-3 hours.
Adding to beautiful views of sun set or rise, boat cruise rewards you with views of various species which reside in the riverside flora. The list includes birds, reptiles and primates like monkeys.
Bungee Jumping
Diving down the 44 m tall tower and touching the river Nile from the ropes is one of the best experiences in life. This is what is referred to as bungee jumping.
The site for this activity is operated by Bungee Uganda, a company which aims at satisfying the demands and expectations of its customers. The area consists of a restaurant and bar facilities where you can get some food and drinks.
The activity is offered daily, but restricted to those with health problems like heart attack, pressure, asthma and more.
Water sliding
Visit the Nile river explorers’ camp to enjoy this fun filled activity. The sliding platform is installed on a hill and enables you to slide right from the starting point at a high level down into the waters of the Nile.
