UGANDA BIRDS
Uganda is a top birding destination for bird lovers with over 1000 + bird species recorded in Uganda in special and unique habitats like the Rwenzori ranges, the semi arid parts of North eastern Uganda, Uganda natural forests and open lakes in the central and western regions of Uganda and not forgetting the wetlands or swamps in Uganda.
Uganda has high respect for the bird species as shown by our national flag that contains the Crested Crane, the national football team of Uganda also goes by the name Uganda Cranes.
Lake victoria which represents the largest fresh water lake in East Africa habors various bird species due to the fertile soils that favor growth of natural plants, papyrus, forests all of which attract a large number of birds to occupy such places with the most common species being the “egret”
Other popular bird species include thethe rare shoe bill , King Fisher species and African jacana which are very common in Lake Mburo national park, the ibis which is located in most wetlands and forests of Uganda, Turacos whih are common in forest like the kibale forest and the albertine rift valley in western Uganda, Crowned Horn Bill is normally found in the woodlands of Uganda with the Marabou Stork residing and prefering the urban type of life mainly found in towns like kampala, mbarara, amongothers.Weaver birds are also another common species located in forest and urban places and commonly knownfor their squeaking and noisy sounds found in near the edge of Kibale national park plus other small in size species like the collard sunbird, red chested sunbird etc
